Liverpool Football Club is the most successful club of all time in English soccer and has fan clubs all over the world. The New York fan (supporters) club is based in The 11 th Street Bar which might come as a bit of a surprise to many regulars but would go a long way to explaining the Liverpool memorabilia in the backroom. Due to the time difference Liverpool games are played anywhere from 7AM to 3PM EST, which means that by the time most regulars arrive in the bar the games are finished. Games are usually played Saturdays-Wednesdays.
The fan club itself has about 500 members but not all of them turn up at once in the bar. The bigger games would see the bar full where as most of the other games would see 100 Liverpool fans gathering. Believe it or not, the bar itself is becoming quite famous in Liverpool and is on the list of tourist attractions for visiting fans. On game days the fans tend to be exclusively Liverpool fans, though opposing fans are also very welcome. Many have even been known to get out alive! The fans are not shy about venting their opinions and the atmosphere is always friendly. The ages have ranged from 6 days (and dressed in a Liverpool shirt!) to somewhere north of 80 (we were too polite to ask) and we get an almost even split of men and women. Game days are well worth the visit, especially the big games with all the singing, chanting, and excitement associated with football, sorry... soccer, wafting out of the bar.
After four years of nothing but the best from The 11 th Street Bar, the Liverpool fan club in New York will be around here for a long time to come. Anyone who has half a notion of catching a game someday, please stop by and be prepared for two hours of fun and passion. You'll probably get to know the words of You'll Never Walk Alone – the Rodgers and Hammerstein anthem from Carousel; it's Liverpool's official song. For kick off times and schedules, you'll find all you'll need on our site www.lfcny.org . Everyone is welcome as long as they are over 21, or they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. See you sometime soon we hope.
